Day 35 Nelspruit –Hazyview

Today Xtractor’s crew is right on the doorstep of world-renowned Kruger, South Africa’s largest and best-known nature reserve. As if that were not enough, the area also offers some of the country’s most scenic drives and quite a few breathtaking vistas, as the mountains once again tumble down to meet the rolling savannah plains known as lowveld in afrikaans. The convoy is back to the Drakensberg and its sheer Escarpment, stretching out in a 1,000 km arc to hug South Africa’s central plateau. Today our tractors are climbing up the section shared by the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga. It is difficult to really grasp what the Escarpment is all about until you get to the rocky look out known as God’s Window – from up there it feels as if you can look down on all of creation, as it were, stretching out as far as the eye can see 900 m below.
