Service with a smile is the watchword at McCormick dealership A Downing Agricultural Engineers near Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. And that applies whether it involves repairing or servicing machinery, selling new tractors and equipment, or supplying parts, tools, consumables and sundries from the newly opened showroom at the Gorefield premises.

The new facility features in a Dealer Profile article in the October 2017 edition of Farmers Guide.

“We’ve always kept service items such as oils, grease and batteries in stock but we never shouted about it,” says Andrew Downing. “We invested in the showroom because we know customers like a convenient source of tools and farm sundries, and it also means we can stock and display such essentials, as well as lawnmowers, estate maintenance equipment, farm toys and models.”

Newly-appointed manager of this facility is Gary Pottle, who previously worked at a large dealership in the area.

“I liked the idea of working for a smaller family dealer where personal service is the main objective,” he says. “Before joining his team, I was well aware of Andrew’s operation, including the superb reputation for customer service. I am convinced he will do well with the McCormick brand; recent additions to the range and those planned for the future are just what is needed in the market and will attract new customers, including those moving from other brands.”

Andrew’s two sons are involved in the business – George looks after the busy heavy transport operation, making deliveries around the UK and Europe, while Charles spends most of his time on service and repairs.

Andrew says of McCormick: “The product has proved almost totally reliable and the standard warranty is excellent. Parts back-up is superb and if a part isn’t in stock in the UK then it can be obtained from Italy overnight. We recently sold an X7 to a large arable farm nearby. It replaced another premium brand and the on-farm demonstration proved it was a worthy replacement with a superior performance and an attractive price.”

Since taking on McCormick, Andrew has expanded with other franchise agreements – for Ovlac ploughs and cultivations equipment, NC Engineering trailers, Pegoraro power cultivators and Morra grassland equipment.
