McCormick’s big development on show at Eima International (to be held in Bologna from 19 to 23 October) concern the X7 range in the new Short Wheelbase (SWB) versions. These confirm and renew the qualities of performance, technology, design, comfort and efficiency that are a must for the brand of the Argo Tractors group.
The X7 SWB range will be presented in Bologna with new Stage V compliant engines thanks to the HI-eSCR2 (DOC+SCRoF) exhaust gas treatment system. The tractors are fitted with the new FTP NEF 45, 16-valve, 4.5-litre 4-cylinder engines and FTP NEF 67, 24-valve, 6.7-litre 6-cylinder engines with Turbo Intercooler and Common Rail electronic injection.
Models in the range include: X7.4 P6-Drive, available in X7.417 with 165hp and X7.418 with up to 175hp; X7.6 P6-Drive, available in X7.617 (165hp) and X7.618 (175hp) with 6 cylinders; X7 VT-Drive with 4 or 6 cylinders, available as X7.418 and X7.618, both capable of delivering up to 175hp thanks to the Power Plus system.
The innovative part of the engines lies in the fuel injection strategy, which leads to increased responsiveness, lower fuel consumption and improved emissions in all forms of movement. The engine installation is designed to have a wheelbase of 2,651mm for the 4-cylinder engine, offering greater stability during field and front loader operations, while maintaining manoeuvrability and versatility. The wheelbase of the 6-cylinder is 2,760 mm. Common to both models is a maximum allowed weight of 11,500 kg and a maximum rear wheel of 710/60R38, which offers greater stability and comfort during transport, less soil compaction in field operations and better traction and performance when working in soil engaging applications
In terms of appearance, changes have been made to the 3,500kg front hitch, which improves design and operator visibility. Also, at the front of the tractor is the new one-piece bonnet, in line with the new McCormick family feeling, with a 90° opening angle for better and more immediate access, also for maintenance work. Also included is the Cooling Matrix system, which facilitates access to the radiators for easy cleaning, making it the top solution in its class. The cab, adapted from the high-end range, features a roof with 12 LED lights that provide 360° visibility at night.
McCormick X7 SWB includes the Engine Brake system as standard, which promotes greater efficiency: by using the turbocharger’s throttle valve, the operator can reduce engine rpms by operating the engine brake together with the rear brakes.
There are two transmissions available: VT-Drive (for the higher powers) and P6-Drive (for all four powers in the range). The continuously variable, 4-stage VT-Drive with 4 sets of crown wheels and oil-cooled clutches guarantees first-class responsiveness. The speed ranges, going from a minimum of 0.04 km/h to a maximum of 50 km/h, facilitate productivity in every working environment. The transmission is controlled by the VT-EasyPilot joystick on the multifunctional armrest.
The P6-Drive transmission, on the other hand, features 6 Powershift gears under load, 5 robotised ranges and electro-hydraulic reverse shuttle on the steering wheel. The total gears are 30 Forward + 15 Reverse which become, with the Creeper, 54 Forward + 27 Reverse. The transmission is controlled via the simple and ergonomic EasyPilot joystick. The Stop & Action system integrates the De-Clutch into the brake pedal, allowing the tractor to be stopped without depressing the clutch for easier driving on the road. Simultaneous use of the Stop & Action and APS (Auto Powershift) systems allows the P6-Drive transmission to be driven in a similar way to VT-Drive.
The 4-speed PTO and reinforced rear final drives allow full power transmission, with adjustable engagement and automatic PTO engagement and disengagement.
The closed-centre hydraulic system with 123 l/min pump (a larger 160 l/min pump is available as an option) can handle up to eight spool valves. The electronic rear hitch provides a maximum lifting capacity of 9,300 kg.
Attention to operator comfort is confirmed as best in class for both field and road driving, thanks to the optional independent front axle suspension system which, by means of electronic control, absorbs stresses and bumps independently at each wheel. In the field the mechanism significantly improves traction and handling, while on the road it optimises speed, safety and comfort. The high quality of the materials used and the excellent ergonomics of the controls in the cab make the driving area ideal for stress-free work. There are also two cab suspension options: mechanical or semi-active electronically controlled.
The control software loaded on the Data Screen Management (12″ touch screen) benefits from a new menu and allows fast and efficient operation thanks to the storage of activities with programmable buttons (MyFunctions) for customising tractor controls.
Satellite guidance and the ISOBUS system are fully integrated, which, through the simple use of the DSM, allow the operator to manage implements without having to use other monitors in the cab.
The McCormick Fleet Management system allows customers to monitor their tractor fleet’s main activities at any time, anywhere in the world. Using IoT (Internet of Things) protocols, all information on fleet activity such as geolocation, consumption, levels, temperatures and work sessions are made available via PC or mobile device. This allows the operational status of tractors to be monitored and their efficiency to be kept constantly under control.
This system is complemented by an innovative remote diagnostic tool made available to all authorised dealerships. It is possible to connect the software to the tractor’s control unit and perform adjustments, program updates, engine parameter diagnostics and system code displays remotely, providing immediate and accurate support to service technicians as well as increasing management efficiency and profitability.
McCormick X8 VT-Drive Stage V
The McCormick X8 range is available in 3 models with powers of 264, 286 and 310 hp delivered by 6-cylinder Betapower Fuel Efficiency 6.7-litre engines equipped with eVGT electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger and SCR exhaust gas post-treatment system, fully compliant with Stage V regulations.
X8 VT-Drive’s strong point is its four-stage continuously variable driveline offering 40km/h ECO speed at 1,300 engine rpm and 50km/h ECO speed at 1,600 rpm.
To efficiently manage the implements the tractor comes standard with an ISOBUS certified system with a dedicated menu included in the 12″ DSM touchscreen monitor.
The closed-centre hydraulic system with 157 l/min load-sensing pump (a larger 212 l/min pump is available as an option) can handle up to ten electro-hydraulically controlled spool valves (6 rear) with 140 l/min capacity. To these is added a 3-way diverter valve capable of managing three hydraulic movements using a single hydraulic control valve. The electronic rear hitch provides a maximum lifting capacity of 12,000 kg.
The electro-hydraulically engaged rear PTO (power take-off) features the three speeds 540E/1000E/1000 as standard. The front hitch with 5,000 kg lifting capacity and 1,000 rpm front power take-off (optional) is also standard.
The front axle is equipped with an electronically controlled parallelogram suspension and oil-bath disc brakes for guaranteed maximum safety and driving comfort.
Maximum allowed weight of 16,000 kg, wheelbase of 3,000 mm and combination of rear wheels available up to 900/60R42.
Première Cab, thanks to its 4-pillar design, offers panoramic visibility in every direction. Moreover, the excellent soundproofing, up to 70 dB, also ensures an extraordinarily comfortable work environment. The instructor seat is fully retractable for perfect accessibility. The interior is of automotive quality and the steering wheel and dashboard are adjustable in inclination and depth. The operator’s seat has dynamic air suspension with automatic height adjustment and a backrest with both heating and ventilation. The right armrest houses all the main controls and the VT-EasyPilot multifunction joystick has an ergonomic grip and clear functions. 12 LED headlights on the roof for unsurpassed visibility at night. The efficient automatic climate control system housed on the roof ensures excellent air distribution under all conditions.
McCormick X5 Stage V
The new X5 Stage V range is available in three models X5.100, X5.110 and X5.120 with maximum powers of 95, 102 and 115 hp respectively. These are complemented by two other high clearance versions: X5.100 HC and X5.110 HC, particularly suitable for horticulture.
The versions available are Premium, which is intended to completely satisfy all the customers’ needs, and Efficient, which offers competitive entry-level specifications.
The new and more captivating design has maintained its compact size, but offers improved operator visibility and comfort.
The new engine meets Stage V requirements thanks to FPT F36 4-cylinder, 16-valve, 3.6-litre, Turbo Intercooler engines with Common Rail electronic injection equipped with EGR/DOC/DPF/SCR technology.
The driving conditions for the operator have been improved by adopting the suspended front axle option which, combined with the new mechanically-suspended cab, allows the vehicle to better tackle uneven terrain. There are eight possible transmission configurations, from 12+12 with mechanical reverse shuttle to 48+16 Reverse Power Shuttle including HML and Creeper and Park Lock.
The hydraulic system offers up to 82 l/min and 6 hydraulic spool valves, of which 3 are mechanically controlled and 1 is electrically controlled. Furthermore, as an option, 2 mid-mounted valves for front hitch and front loader purposes, can be combined together. The optional flow selector allows managing up to 7 hydraulic connectors.
The available hitches are electronic and mechanical, equipped with ELS (Ergonomic Lift System). The electronic hitch itself is equipped with a pitch compensation function for road transport, and the lifting capacity of the Category 2 three-point linkage is an impressive 4500 kg.
The PTO is engaged gradually by the hydraulically controlled clutch and has 2 or 4 speeds. With the electronic hitch, the Auto PTO function is available, which engages and disengages the PTO when the hitch is engaged during end-of-field manoeuvres.
The new Joystick in the cab can manage various loader commands (up/down, load/unload; third and fourth function), as well as transmission Hi-Lo and HML functions. With regard to the front loader, it should be noted that the frame has been designed not to reduce the ground clearance and to maintain the same turning radius.
The telematic McCormick Fleet Management system allows the tractor fleet to be remotely controlled. This allows to better manage all the activities involving the tractors and implements, thus maximising efficiency and yields, minimising management costs, and allowing remote diagnostics to be performed.
